Word Frequency Counter

Count how many times each word appears in a block of text.

Results are provided for general informational use. Verify important financial, health or legal figures before relying on them.

About this Word Frequency Counter

The Word Frequency Counter breaks text into individual words and counts how many times each one appears, then lists the most frequent words first. It is useful for reviewing writing style, keyword usage or repeated terms.

How the calculation works

Text is lowercased and split into word tokens, punctuation is stripped, and occurrences of each unique word are tallied and sorted from most to least frequent.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type text into the box.
  2. Select Count words.
  3. Review the list of words ranked by how often they appear.

Practical example

In the text “the cat sat on the mat”, the word “the” appears twice while every other word appears once.
