Compare two blocks of text and see which lines differ.

Results are provided for general informational use. Verify important financial, health or legal figures before relying on them.

About this Text Diff Checker

The Text Diff Checker compares two blocks of text line by line and highlights which lines only appear in the first text, only appear in the second text, or match in both. It is useful for spotting changes between two versions of content, code or lists.

How the calculation works

The tool compares the two texts line by line. Lines present only in the first text are marked removed, lines present only in the second are marked added, and identical lines are marked unchanged.

How to use it

  1. Paste the original text into the first box.
  2. Paste the updated text into the second box.
  3. Select Compare to see line-by-line differences.

Practical example

If the first text has a line that was edited in the second text, the diff view marks the old line as removed and the new line as added.

Frequently asked questions

Does it detect changes within a line?

No. This compares whole lines rather than highlighting individual word changes inside a line.

Is the comparison case-sensitive?

Yes, differing capitalization is treated as a difference.

Does line order matter?

Yes. A line moved to a different position is treated as removed from one place and added in another.
