About this Investment Return Calculator

The Investment Return Calculator compares an ending investment value with its starting value and expresses the gain or loss as a percentage of the original investment. It is a quick performance measure rather than a full annualized return model.

How the calculation works

ROI is calculated as (final value − initial value) ÷ initial value × 100. It does not adjust for the length of time, cash flows, taxes, fees or inflation.

How to use it

  1. Enter the initial investment value.
  2. Enter the final value.
  3. Calculate to see gain or loss and ROI percentage.

Practical example

An investment that grows from 5,000 to 6,000 gains 1,000 and has a simple ROI of 20%.
